This is a very good video that explains what bruxism/grinding is. General information about causes, problems related to and treatments available.
There are two types of night guards you can try. I usually recommend patients start with an over-the-counter night guard at first. This DenTek night guard is my favorite. It retails around $40 at Target, Walmart and Amazon. You simply boil the guard in water and fit to your teeth. As it cools a mold will form. I like this one because it isn't bulky like a lot of other night guards on the market.
If you need something a little more durable, I would recommend to have your dental office make you a custom night guard. Your dental team will take impressions of your teeth and the office, or lab, will fabricate a night guard from high quality materials. The downside to this procedure is simply the cost. Most dental insurances do not cover night guards. Average cost ranges from $350 to $550 depending on your area.
